Elloughton Juniors Sunday league football team were invited to Iceland to take part in the Shellmotid under 10's football tournament on the island of Vestmannaeyjum. This was quite an honour as they were the first non-Icelandic team to participate. The boys set about raising money to help finance the trip. This involved a sponsored run, bag packing at the Iceland store in Willerby, and a race night. Local companies were approached to see if they could help in any way. Seagold sponsored the new shirts with Samskip providing tracksuits for the team and East Yorkshire Motor Services provided the coach to transport the team and supporters down to Heathrow

and back. On landing at Keflavik airport we were greeted with heavy rain and wind. The next morning saw us boarding a ferry to the Vestmannaeyjum Islands. After recovering from seasickness the players were soon into their first match, which they won 4-2. From this point on everything improved including the weather! We all came back with good suntans and a trophy. The team were undefeated throughout the tournament and won the Guest cup. The players would like to thank everybody who helped and supported them to allow such a wonderful and unique experience to take place, especially everyone in Iceland who made us more than welome.
